We are keeping busy getting our Bible teaching materials out (our books and CDs, The Faith Log blog, faith-building articles, answering email inquiries, etc.). We appreciate all the feedback. One note came from Robert, who emailed us simply to say, “Thanks for the spiritual food.” That’s always encouraging.

FaithPoint

We have been blogging for over a year now and have received many positive responses to The Faith Log. Now we are preparing to go to the next level and launch a podcast in the new year. A podcast is sort of an audio blog. You might also think of it as a radio journal on the internet. It is something you can access at your convenience and “play on demand.” We are calling our new program FaithPoint, to go along with The Faith Log. Still working on the formatting details (program length, scheduling, etc.) but we will keep you informed.

Prayer-Walking at Westfield

For this Thanksgiving and Christmas season, I have taken up a special project of prayer—actually of prayer-walking. Three or four days a week, I am going up to the local shopping mall, Westfield Shopping Town, for some onsite prayer.

Jesus told a parable of some different soils—some hard and compacted, some rocky, some full of thorns and thistles, and some very good. The seed that was scattered was very good seed—the best, in fact—but the differences in the soil made all the difference in the world in regard to the harvest.

In another parable, Jesus said that the kingdom of God is like a man who planted a seed, and then went about his business. The seed grew, though the man did not know how. He simply prepared good soil, planted good seed and then had full confidence that there would be a wonderful harvest—and there was.

So my project is to prepare the soil for a good and fruitful planting. During this next month, there is going to be a special opportunity for the seed of the Gospel to be presented as people go about their holiday preparations. It will be a witness of the coming of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago in Bethlehem, and also a consideration of why He came.

Yes, there is a lot of commercialization that has grown up around it, and for many or most people, the commercial tends to choke out the spiritual. That’s why I’m praying. I’m preparing the soil at Westfield to set an atmosphere that will be receptive to the Gospel message inherent in the Christmas story. As I go up and down the mall (I probably look like I’m just walking the mall for my health), I am praying.

  • Father, show how remarkable you are at Westfield.
  • Show Your glory and reveal Who You are in this place (sometimes I actually sing this to a little blues riff).
  • Kingdom of God, come to Westfield.
  • Will of God, be done at Westfield just as it is being done in heaven.
  • Sometimes I pray a particular Scripture that comes to mind.
  • Sometimes I pray in tongues. Often I sing in tongues.
  • And I release praise and thanksgiving as I go.

When I finish, I go to one of the sitting areas and have a little devotional time with the Lord (I carry a handy little New Testament with Psalms).

The Christmas story is good seed, and as it begins to be sown into the soil prepared at Westfield this season, I am watching for a harvest of joy and salvation for many who frequent the shops and kiosks of this busy place.

November 4, 2005

We were saddened this month at the passing of my step-father, Wallace B. Dalton. He was a fine man who left this world better than he found it. The obituary from the Charlotte Observer presents his accomplishments very well. We rejoice that he has entered into the joy of the LORD, and we honor his memory.

Faith Log Anniversary
This month we celebrate the one-year anniversary of our blog (weblog), The Faith Log. We began it on October 30, 2004, and since then we have posted over 300 articles exploring the workings of Biblical faith. These are jumpstarts for your faith, defibrillations to set your heart beating with the rhythms of God. Browse through the site at http://faithlog.blogspot.com and feel free to leave your comments.

To celebrate this little milestone, for the month of November we are offering our new book, The Faith Log, at a special value. Regularly $12.00, this month you can get it for just $9.95 + shipping and handling (see box at right).

You can also enjoy daily Bible readings by Max McLean, as well as a daily psalm, proverb and promise from the Word of God. Did I mention the daily Bible quiz to test your knowledge? Multiple choice, and guessing is allowed. Also, with just a click, you can aid ministries that ministering to the hungry with food and Bibles.

Healing Conference Rescheduled

The healing conference which had been scheduled for October 22 has been postponed because of Hurricane Wilma. It is rescheduled for January 21, 2006 at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Valrico, FL.

Notes From Our Friends

  • From Pastor Reg: Thanks so much for these articles. As a pastor, I benefit in a twofold way: These insights speak to me & minister to me—& give me something to share with others. All too often, articles merely provide a message for "them," not me. I recommend that you keep the articles at this short length. Brevity is quite an art. [Talking about our Faith Log articles.]
  • From Rich: Amen, Jeff! Well said. What better place to exercise our faith than when facing something which can only be handled in the supernatural? It's definitely time for us to take up the authority and dominion that Jesus gave us and bring forth life in the face of death. I believe these storms are demonic in their origins, and we must rise to the occasion! Keep up the good work, brother. You are a blessing! [Faith Log, Speak to the Storm.]
  • From Sheila: Thanks so much for that Jeff. We are speaking to that storm and through your encouragement many others will as well. [Faith Log, Speak to the Storm]
  • From J.C.: I can finally say that I feel I have an intimate relationship with God. I talk to Him everyday. I even started a journal that are letters, prayers and thoughts just to Him. I fell from grace, but I'm so grateful that His arms never closed and He welcomed me back. I wonder now how I ever thought I could do this on my own! [Faith Log, Falling From Grace.]

October 12, 2005

We’ve been continuing with the various assignments the Lord has given us: Bible study group, leading worship for the School of the Spirit at our home church, leading worship for the monthly pastors’ prayer lunch, the Faith Log.

In September, Wayne Anderson, of Standsure Ministries, brought some teaching to our home church. We have learned much from him over the past 5-6 years, so it was a privilege to be asked to bring the worship for a couple of these recent meetings.

We continue to see the goodness of the Lord, and we give Him all the thanks and praise.

Healing Conference
Coming up on October 22, we will be participating in a healing conference hosted by Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Valrico, FL, and the local chapter of the Order of Saint Luke. In addition to leading worship throughout the day, I will be bringing the message for the closing session, teaching on faith and the authority every believer has for healing prayer. We are believing God to bring forth many healings and activate many believers for ministering healing to others. For more information and registration.

Notes From Our Friends

  • From Cheryl: "I am writing to obtain your permission to print off some of your articles, concerning faith, anxiety, fear etc in order to encourage my fiancé.... I have just been onto the Google site and typed in "faith builders," and Wow! I have just discovered your site. Talk about the steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord!! Everything you have taken the trouble in putting down is exactly what he needs to hear and I just want to encourage him and help to build him up to go on and not let the enemy defeat him. Thank you for your wonderful site and I pray that the Lord will continue to use you in a mighty way to build up the body of Christ.
  • From Joseph: "I'm glad you are reaching out and helping others grow closer to Him. After FBC I worked in Sylacauga Alabama where I prayed with some people to ask the Lord to baptize me in the Holy Spirit. Each day now I want to enjoy Him as you said." (A fellow alumnus of Florida Bible College. Posted at Laying Up Treasure—Where is Your Heart.
  • From Dolphinfan: "Very encouraging! It's amazing to know that the God of the universe thinks about us. We are not just insignificant creatures. We were thought about and planned with a purpose. Keep up the good work!" (Posted at I Would Declare and Speak)

September 10, 2005

The hot, slow days of August have past, leaving behind the hot, slow days of September :) Thank God for air conditioning! So we've been staying indoor in the cool working on the 'blog and some book design. Bible study on Tuesday mornings. Leading worship for School of the Spirit on Wednesday nights. Breakfast with the Bible study group on Thursdays. Somebody Cares pastors' prayer lunch on the third Thursday of every month. Praising and enjoying God throughout. Hope you are, too.

Desire Street Ministries
One of the ministries we have been supporting over the last few years is Desire Street Ministries. For the past 15 years they have been extending the kingdom of God in the poorest section of New Orleans, the Desire Street neighborhood. Their goal is to make it truly a place of desire, revitalizing it through spiritual and community development. In recent years, they have established a Christian Academy, an Urban Institute and a church, and have seen many lives changed for the better.

Hurricane Katrina has scattered the community and the entire ministry team. Mo Leverett, executive director, has established temporary headquarters in the Atlanta area and is seeking a location to resume Desire Street Academy as a boarding school until they are able to reestablish in New Orleans.

We believe that God redeems not only individuals and communities, but even the land as well. The ministry of the gospel has been sown on that piece of ground, and we fully expect the kingdom of God to burst forth and flourish there to make the Desire Street neighborhood a place of godly desire.

Desire Street Ministries is well worth prayer and financial support, and we invite you to visit them online at www.desirestreet.org  to see their work, their present needs (click on "Latest Hurricane Update"), and perhaps consider how you might help.

Letters From Our Friends

  • Cathy from PA: "I purchased 3 of your Healing Scriptures and Prayers CDs. I listened to the first two and absolutely loved them. I am so thrilled. I am believing for my healing from migraines and when I have had them since I got the CDs, I have listened to them and they keep my faith going. They are absolutely exactly what I was looking for—healing verses and prayers to keep my spirit focused on God in spite of the pain. Thanks for coming out with a product that is such a blessing. I have already told my friends that these are great." (Healing Scriptures and Prayers CDs)

  • From Julé: "Thank you so much for the work you put into this ministry. This is my second day on and I am really getting a lot out of it. You are both such a blessing." (Talking about Faith Log article You Don't Have to Take It.)

  • From Lynn: "On finding your website, I was thrilled. I followed the very same advice related to faith in Christ ... I thank God for giving us people like you and the other ministries who guide us in developing our faith." (Talking about Faith Log Article Faith Brings Expectation.)

  • From Joyce: "Words cannot fully express my heartfelt appreciation for this article. I met some young mothers this weekend and wanted to share some spiritual insight on praying for our children. I started out looking in the Blue Letter Bible for scriptures on children and parents but there are well over 1,000 bible verses with the word 'children.' Then God blessed me to search on 'prophesy over your children' and I found this excellent excellent scripture based article.... We distribute food once a month and I always like to have a printout to share with recipients. Many of them have children and this would be excellent." (Talking about our faith-building article Praying Over Your Children With Power.)

August 1, 2005

Not many “newsy” bits this month. Just working steadily along and getting some things done. Behind the scenes kind of things, like getting the ministry accounting set up on QuickBooks software (whew!). Moving along on a few other projects. Writing up a storm on The Faith Log. Having a good time. Hope you are, too.

Going After Ancient Wisdom
Every Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m., I get together with a few other men and lead a Bible study through Proverbs. We’ve been in this particular study since the beginning of 2004, and we are up almost up to the end of chapter 27 (No sense getting in a hurry when you’re going after ancient wisdom). We have had a great time all along the way, letting the lines of Scripture work on us.

We believe that every time we get in the Word we’re going to be changed. It may not always be noticeable, but over the course of weeks, months and years, there is an accumulative effect of being exposed to the practical wisdom of God, even in little things. And as we discuss the various proverbs, we share quite a bit of our lives with each other, so our friendship is that much tighter. If you are not part of an ongoing Bible study group, let me encourage you to get involved, because the benefits really start to stack up.

Healing Prayer and John Wesley's Horse
Doing research for a new book, Continuing Gifts: Manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the History of the Church, I came across some interesting entries in the journals of John Wesley. They record how God healed Wesley’s horse—on three different occasions!

March 17, 1746 —“I took my leave of Newcastle, and set out with Mr. Downes and Mr. Shepherd. But when we came to Smeton, Mr. Downes was so ill, that he could go no further. When Mr. Shepherd and I left Smeton, my horse was so exceeding lame that I was afraid I must have lain by too. We could not discern what it was that was amiss; and yet he would scarce set his foot to the ground. By riding thus seven miles, I was thoroughly tired, and my head ached more than it had done for some months. (What I here aver is the naked fact: Let every man account for it as he sees good.) I then thought, “Cannot God heal either man or beast, by any means, or without any?” Immediately my weariness and headache ceased, and my horse’s lameness in the same instant. Nor did he halt any more either that day or the next. A very odd accident this also!”

September 5, 1781—“About noon, I preached at Taunton. I believe it my duty to relate here what some will esteem a most notable instance of enthusiasm. Be it so or not, I aver the plain fact. In an hour after we left Taunton, one of the chaise-horses was on a sudden so lame, that he could hardly set his foot to the ground. It being impossible to procure any human help, I knew of no remedy but prayer. Immediately the lameness was gone, and he went just as he did before. In the evening I preached at South-Brent; and the next day went on to Bristol.”

May 23, 1783—“I set out for Derby; but the smith had so effectually lamed one of my horses, that many told me he would never be able to travel more. I thought, “Even this may be made matter of prayer;” and set out cheerfully. The horse, instead of growing worse and worse, went better and better; and in the afternoon (after I had preached at Leek by the way) brought me safe to Derby.”

Suz and I have prayed over our “horses” (cars) and blessed them in the name of Jesus on a number of occasions with some pretty remarkable results. God has not ceased doing signs and wonders.

Letters From Our Friends

  • From Abby: “This message has spoken to my heart at a time of great odds.
Thank You Jesus for the Beloved.” (Talking about our Faith Log article, “How to Have Mountain-Moving Faith.”)
  • From Magdalene: “You presented the subject of tongues very nicely! God Bless You Both!” (Talking about our Faith Log article, “Downloading in the Spirit.”)
  • From CyberRanger: “I have put up a link to your blog from mine.” (That’s how things get around on the internet. We’re delighted to have other sites link to ours. In the words of Jabez, it “enlarges our territory”—1 Chronicles 4:9-10).
  • Cynthia from Alabama: “I am reprinting this article to be used in my ministry to women and single adults this month, August 2005. Thank you for this resource.” (She’s talking about our Faith Builder article, “How to Encourage Yourself in the LORD.” We’re happy to share the ministry.)

July 1, 2005

"I love the LORD because He heard my voice and my supplication. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live." (Psalm 116:1-2).

Yep, that about sums it up for me! God is so good!

The Faith Log
Our new book, The Faith Log: Exploring the Workings of Biblical Faith, is here. Adapted from our online ‘blog, these are jumpstarts for your faith—defibrillations to set your heart beating with the rhythms of God.

You can order The Faith Log from us directly. It is also available at Amazon.com in paperback and eBook.

Vinny Gallagher Meetings
Three nights in June I was privileged to lead the worship for the Vinny Gallagher meetings held at Revival Outreach Center, our home church. Vinny is the founder of Mercy Christian Fellowship, just outside Philadelphia, PA. He brought us some great messages on “activating your spiritual heart” and “breaking generational curses.” You can find out more about this ministry and teaching at his website: www.mercyfellowship.org.

Inheriting the Nations

About 7 or 8 years ago I was reading in Psalm 2 when my heart was captured by verse 8: “Ask of Me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance and the ends of the earth for your possession.” So I asked. Recently I realized that the LORD has begun answering that prayer. Now, this may sound a little “tongue in cheek,” but remember that “many a truth is said in jest”: God has given me the nations through the internet.

Over the years since we have had our ministry website, and now our ‘blog, our faith-building materials have been viewed all over the earth and we have heard from people from many parts around the world. We have also had many of our articles posted on a number of other websites. As I’ve said before, it really is a world-wide web, and I want to acknowledge God’s faithfulness in enlarging our borders.

Letters From Our Friends

  • From Patricia: “Thank you for your e-mails to me, I enjoy being able to know what your doing and especially your books and CDs. Thank you so much for your ministry and your faithfulness to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

  • From Donna: “Suzanne, your story on deliverance from fear particularly spoke to my heart as I go through some trials right now, being faithful to trust that His will be done.”  (Suzanne's testimony is about how God delivered from deep-seated fear back in the summer of 2000.)

  • From Bob: “I was touched by your wife's testimony. I'm going to go back and read it again. There are a lot of "what-if's" in my life.”

  • From Cynthia: "I appreciate your website and the ministry of you and your wife. My heart has been wondering for a while now about the link between worship and healing, and I'm hoping that the Lord has a lot to teach me in that. Your articles are an encouragement to keep seeking.”

  • From Steve: “As a hospital chaplain I look forward to your emails and website as a source of encouragement in my daily rounds.”

  • From Adam: “I was wondering if I could use your "most important prayer" on my website.” (The “Most Important Prayer” is a Gospel presentation I wrote for our website. The most important prayer is the one you make to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. We are more than to make it more widely available.)

  • From Anonymous to The Faith Log: “Interesting take on the subject. I've been looking at a lot of websites from the search "how to forgive," and I'd say this one is the most helpful. I will check this passage out further.” (Talking about our article, “How to Forgive By Faith.”)

June 1 , 2005

Our daughter reached a milestone this month, graduating from High School. She will now be working with the newly instituted Joshua Center for the Arts, in Brandon, FL. She will be doing some teaching and helping with administration (that's certainly a gift!). The vision of the Joshua Center is to further the kingdom of God through use of all the arts for His glory. They will cause the walls of the enemy to fall wherever they go.

This month we had the opportunity to sit under the teaching of Wayne Anderson. He is a father to this ministry, and we always look forward to hearing him. He taught us on the principles of inheritance in the kingdom of God. One thing Suzanne and I came away with in a much deeper way is the encouragement from Jesus, "Let not your heart be troubled" (John 14:1). The grace and glory (His goodness and greatness) is much greater than any failure or difficulty we will ever have to deal with. And so I say to you, "Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe in Jesus."

The Healing Names of God (now here!)
Our new Healing Scriptures CD is now in hand and ready for distribution. It is called The Healing Names of God, volume 3 in the Healing Scriptures and Prayers series.

Over 70 minutes of soaking prayer and meditation on the healing names of God to help you receive your healing.

Update on The Faith Log (book edition)
We're just putting the finishing touches on a new book called The Faith Log: Exploring the Workings of Biblical Faith.

Yes, we named it after our 'blog, and for good reason—that is where it was birthed. We are excited to present these writings on The Dynamics of Faith because so many people simply do not know how to use their faith. This new book also includes a section called The Gateway Between Heaven and Earth. Also included is A Vocabulary of Faith, working definitions that have helped us greatly in our faith walk with the Lord.

We expect to release the book edition of The Faith Log in early July.

Letters
Much of our ministry is on the Internet, through our main site: www.walkingbarefoot.com and our blog site, The Faith Log. From time to time we receive encouraging emails from visitors letting us know what these sites mean to them. Here is some of what we received this month:

  • From Benard: Hello, I am a newly converted Christian. I am very proud to be closer than before to Jesus. I read some ebook from your site and it was very encouraging on healing. [He might be referring to Get Ready For You Healing, available as a free download here.]
  • From Lindielee: Wow! Bless "all the food in the joint"! Charge the place with His power, His will...wow! Thanks so much for teaching me to look at praying over food as an opportunity for His kingdom to invade the place where I am! Bless of God on you! [She is referring to "Exercising Your Authority to Bless," published at The Faith Log.]

May 4, 2005

Good month. Moving forward. Praising God for our new laptop computer—thanks for your prayers and contributions. It is up-to-date, fast and with a large capacity RAM and hard drive. The portability factor is a big help. And it is very quiet, which is a great benefit for the recording work I’ve been doing.

The Healing Names of God
The recording project is Volume 3 in the Healing Scriptures and Prayers CD series. This one is called Healing Names of God, and is adapted from our book, Healing Scriptures and Prayers. The projects consists of Scripture readings, a bit of helpful commentary and healing prayers, presented over a backdrop of gentle, meditative music. All that is left is a little tweaking on the audio tracks and graphic design, and it will be ready for release in June. Then I will begin work on the follow-up CD, The Healing Ministry of Jesus.

The Faith Log—book edition
Over the past six months, God has been stirring in my heart about some things, and I have been writing about many of them in The Faith Log, our blog site. Early on, as I began to recognize some themes emerging consistently in these articles, I saw that God would have me bring them together in book form, and we are now at that point. Three things stand out in particular, and these will be the three main sections of the book:

  • The Dynamics of Faith

  • The Gateway Between Heaven and Earth

  • Believing the Glory of God.

Much of this book has already been written, so the process will be sorting it out, editing it together and polishing it up. Yeah, you can read a lot of it already online at the blog, but the book will have the advantage of portability, no typos (well, at least a lot fewer typos), and it will make a great gift for people who could use a jumpstart in their faith.

More Revelation of Jesus
I've recently uploaded a track from our teaching CD, Get a Revelation of Heaven. It is called More Revelation of Jesus, about five minutes long, and you can hear it in MP3.

Letters

  • From Art D. in FL to The Faith Log: As I have told you several times before, God is doing a GOOD WORK IN YOU! This is just another great thing that you are doing for Him. Your teaching is right on and your writing is also.

  • From Pastor J.J in Tokyo, Japan to The Faith Log: I enjoyed reading your article. Keep up with your good work for Jesus!

  • From Julia: This is the closest statement that I have found matching my personal understanding of the Holy Father. Thank God for any knowledge he has spread to me and others through your site he has lent you. I pray you are and will be blessed by Our Heavenly Father.

  • And this from Pope Benedict XVI to The Faith Log: Bless you, my child.

(Hmmmmm, that last one sounds a bit fishy to me, too.)

April 1, 2005 (No foolin')

February was busy, and March did not slow down any. We’ve had so many wonderful opportunities for prayer, worship and bible teaching—but we’re asking God for more. We’re praying for a home for our new Sunday evening worship, and also asking God to bring us a new laptop computer for our writing, teaching, and recording work, and administration of the ministry.

If you would like to pray with us, here are some specifics we are looking for in a laptop: 512 RAM or greater, 80 gigabyte hard drive or greater, and Centrino technology (less heat, less noise, longer battery time).

Transform Tampa Bay
The first part of March, I attended the Transform Tampa Bay conference hosted by Somebody Cares, Tampa Bay. George Otis was the guest speaker. He is the writer and filmmaker who has produced the “Transformations” video series, documenting how radical prayer and the power of the Gospel has literally transformed whole communities and cities around the world.

So great is the effect of these revivals, they have even had powerful ecological results. For example, the coral reefs in the Fiji Islands have inexplicably come back to life (National Geographic did a piece on this a few months back). This ecological wonder began at the same time repentance and revival came to the Fijis—it is more than just coincidence.

Doug Stringer, founder and director of Somebody Cares, America, also addressed the roomful of pastors and ministry leaders. In the evening, I was privileged to lead the assembly in worship, and then we heard more about the explosive revivals that are happening around the world.

We long for this kind of powerful transformation to take place in Tampa Bay, which is why part of our ministry is working with the Somebody Cares, Brandon—a growing group of pastors who get together monthly for prayer, worship and fellowship. We have an expectation to see Jesus lifted high and power of the Gospel to transform the Greater Brandon area.

It can happen in your neck of the woods, too. Do you have an expectation?

God’s Favorite Number & Catching Up
A good friend of ours, Ben Peters, of Open Heart Ministries, has written two new books and we are helping him get them published. As the “graphics department” for WBM (I wear many hats around here—well, one hat with a lot of stickers :), I have developed a good bit of experience in layout and design, so I am designing the covers and laying out the pages for him.

The first book is called God’s Favorite Number: The Secret Keys and Awesome Power of True Unity and is about how, when we learn to walk in the unity of the body of Christ, it releases a revelation of God’s glory—and wonderful things begin to happen.

The second book is called Catching Up to the Third World: Seven Indispensable Keys to Explosive Revival in the Western Church. In this one, Ben talks about what keeps us from experiencing the signs and wonders that are being seen in “underdeveloped” nations, and how we can prepare ourselves to receive the revival God longs to bring to our part of the world.

These are terrific books and I’m delighted to be a part of getting them published. We’ll let you know when they come out, and of course, we will be featuring them in The Barefoot Bookshop.

Letters
Much of our ministry is on the Internet, through our main site: www.walkingbarefoot.com and our blog site, The Faith Log. From time to time we receive encouraging emails from visitors letting us know what these sites mean to them:

  • From David R.: Just stopped to say that I love the way your site is organized and I love the information you have posted. Keep up the good work!

  • From Jerry B. in Akron, OH: Hi Jeff ! ...was randomly visiting...<grin> Wanted to let ya know we enjoyed...and appreciate your STRONG Witness and presence here on the net!! Have bookmarked! God bless you, yours and your effort for Him!

  • From Carl B.: I am preparing some sessions on Matthew 6:19 and came across your writing on Treasure. I have found it really helpful not just to prepare my sessions but also in challenging myself! I find your writing style really clear and the content of the article has really helped me. Keep up the good work and be encouraged that you are hitting the mark. God bless you in every way.

  • And this, posted anonymously on The Faith Log: I found your website just browsing, and since I don't believe that things just happen by accident, want to say that your website is very refreshing and encouraging. Keep up the good work of the gospel.

March 3, 2005

Well, February was a short month, but it was packed quite full. The first two weeks were spent largely in preparation for the last two weeks, which were two week-long conferences.

Healing and Deliverance Conference

The first conference was on Healing, Deliverance and Discipleship, presented by Ellel ministries. Ellel is an international ministry directed by Peter Horrobin, the author of a 2-volume set of books called Healing Through Deliverance. My role in the conference was to open up the morning and evening sessions with worship, to “hold the door open” for the people to come into the presence of the Lord, where healing happens and transformation takes place. The group was very responsive and we enjoyed many wonderful times together glorifying and enjoying God.

International Apostolic Ministries 2005

The second conference was the 2005 convening of International Apostolic Ministries. This is the body that ordained Suzanne and me to Gospel ministry a few years back. We came expecting to receive from the Lord, to be encouraged and renewed, and to hear a fresh word of guidance regarding our life and ministry. We were not disappointed. We were greatly encouraged by a prophetic word that was spoken over us toward the end of the week: “Conquer the land. Plow with hope. Partake of the harvest.” Those are very powerful words, and full of meaning for us in the context of our life and direction, and I’m sure we will be unpacking and meditating on them for quite a while.

Ministry in the Marketplace

One of the challenges we received from the Lord at IAM 2005 is to get involved in ministry in the marketplace. Suzanne is there now, with her work as a Benefits Manager, and we are praying to see how God wants to bring forth His kingdom through that. One way the Lord has shown me to get involved in marketplace ministry is to simply go onsite to area businesses and pray for the blessing and prosperity of God to come upon them, and for the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to be lifted up there.

We believe that God is a God of blessing, and that He has authorized us as agents of His blessing. We are learning and stretching out in this area. For instance, when we go out to eat now, we not only bless our own food, but all the food in the joint, that there might be a revelation of the goodness of God and an experience of His peace in those places.

Also, when I say, “bless the food,” I do not just mean that we ask God to bless it for us. Jesus gave us authority to bless when He taught us to pray, “Your [the Father’s] will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” So we take that authority and exercise it even when we pray at meal time—“I bless this food in Jesus’ name”—believing that the will of God will be done in that food, exactly as His will is being done in heaven. Can you imagine eating food that is charged with the power of heaven? Now go a step further and imagine charging it with the power of heaven! Every believer is an authorized agent.

The Joyful House of Prayer

Over the past two years, the Lord has been speaking with us regarding the ”Joyful House of Prayer.” This comes to us from Isaiah 56:6-7: “Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants … even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer.” For two years we have been waiting on the Lord to show us what He wants us to do with that.

This week, at the IAM convening, the Lord showed us that the time has come to begin moving on JHOP. We believe He is directing us to begin Sunday evening worship services in area homes, where even the unchurched can receive a revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ, that they might come to Him, to love and serve Him, and that all might be joyful in His house of prayer.

A further word from the Lord that came to me this week was quite startling: “Plant churches with My glory.” No doubt, churches ought to be planted with the glory of God, but what was new was that He was directing me to plant churches. I’m in over my head on that one! But you’ve got to step out of the boat if you’re going to walk on water. One thing I know is that these will probably be pretty peculiar churches if the Lord is going to use me to plant them. We are going after 1 Corinthians 14:26ff, the works of Jesus, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Please, keep us in prayer. We’ll keep you posted.

February 3, 2005

We give thanks to God for His goodness and praise Him for His faithfulness. January was a difficult month, but God is with us in every circumstance, and we rely on His promises. We continue to have wonderful times of worship and study in the Word of God. And we expect to see His glory shine forth, even in unexpected ways.

Our Friend, Don Connolly

Don Connolly

1958-2005

On Saturday, January 22, 2005, we returned home from a family visit and received the news that Don Connolly, our dear friend, passed away. He was a very generous-hearted man whom God used to bless many ministries and individuals in our community. He was a great friend to our ministry, as well, and was on our board of directors.

I remember a few years ago when God stirred Don up with the prayer of Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10). I had finished reading the book, The Prayer of Jabez, by Bruce Wilkinson, and I gave it to Don to read. Well, it lit a bonfire in his heart to think that he could really ask and believe God to, not only bless him greatly, but also to make him a great blessing to others.

Don was not an idle man. When he got a vision for something, he ran with it as hard as he could. That’s what happened with this little book. Don wanted to get it out to as many people as he could and see that prayer prayed a million times as a result. He worked out a special rate with Multnomah, the publishers of the book, and distributed many thousands of copies, gifting them to numerous churches in the area to give away to their congregations.

One day I remember in particular. Early one Thursday morning, Don and I, and a mutual friend, Art deLaski, got up and headed across the bay to deliver twelve cases of The Prayer of Jabez to St. John Primitive Baptist Church, in the Greenwood district of Clearwater. We met the pastor for breakfast and then followed him over to the church, where the pastor played some very soulful Gospel tunes. The goodness of God manifested so sweetly that we could not help but worship and pray and prophesy the glory of God over Greenwood.

A memorial service was held for Don on Thursday, January 27th, which would have been his 47th birthday. It was my honor to sing a couple of songs which I believe he would have enjoyed: Grace Like Rain and Give Me Jesus. We used to be in a home group together, where I led worship. I never heard Don sing, or even see him move his lips. But he would just close his eyes and listen, and I could tell by the expression on his face that he was worshipping the Lord.

We love Don very much, and we will miss him greatly. But we know that we will see him again. He is in the very place his heart was crying out for, and he is now full of joy in the presence of the Lord.

The Dynamics of Biblical Faith
Submitted for your perusal and edification—a series of brief articles on the dynamics of Biblical faith:

These articles are on file at The Faith Log exploring the workings of Biblical faith. Defibrillations to set your heart beating with the rhythms of God.

January 4, 2005

As you may have noticed, we have been tweaking and upgrading our logo and our look. Instead of the old “hang ten” bare feet, there is now a rendering of the burning bush (which gets more to the point of what we are about). We like the vibrant colors. The “blue over green” motif symbolizes the coming together of heaven and earth, which is the way God gets things done in this world.

A Glance Back With Thanksgiving

We give thanks to God for His faithfulness to us in 2004—for victories won and the things we were able to accomplish. We thank Him from bringing us unscathed through four devastating hurricanes. We also thank Him for showing Himself strong in the healing of my mother.

This year we published:

This year we also had many of our faith-building articles published on other web pages and in a local Christian newspaper. In addition, the hits on our articles on our own web page totaled almost 17,000.

This year we acquired book distribution through Ingram’s and Spring Arbor. This serves to make our print books (and also our three eBook editions) available online at numerous outlets. It also means that our print editions are available through most bookstores, Christian and secular.

This year our web page, www.walkingbarefoot.com, received almost 160,000 hits from all around the world.

This year we launched a ‘blog (web log) into the “blogosphere.” We call it The Faith Log—exploring the workings of Biblical faith. Defibrillations to set your heart beating with the rhythms of God. “Shuttle flights” leaving daily—online at faithlog.blogspot.com.

Looking Forward With Joyful Expectation

As our teaching ministry expands in 2005, we will be producing audio messages on CD. Our first release in this area is called Get a Revelation of Heaven. It is from a meeting where I had prepared to preach on Psalm 1, but the Lord orchestrated everything toward Psalm 11, “When the foundations are destroyed, what the righteous do?” It turned out to be just what that church needed to hear. That’s what I call a God thing.

In 2005 we also plan to publish:

  • Healing Scriptures and Prayers CD, Vol. 3 The Healing Ministry of Jesus

  • Healing Scriptures and Prayers CD, Vol. 4 The Healing Names of God

  • Continuing Gifts: Manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the History of the Church (book)

We look forward to continuing The Faith Log in 2005. It has been an invigorating experience for me as I post each day concerning the things God has been impressing upon me. My expectation is that this will stimulate new writing projects that are pertinent for faith in these times.

This is a year of overflow, and we are believing God to open up new opportunities for us to preach and teach on prayer, faith and the power of God. We are asking God to place us in strategic partnerships with other ministries for preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ, and we watch in anticipation for those whom God is bringing forth to join with us in ministry. We will certainly appreciate the partnership of your prayers in these matters.

May the glory of the Lord abound more and more in your life and ours in this coming year.

How God Blessed in 2004!
